Bible translation faithful to the Vulgate
Confraternity edition of the NEW TESTAMENT
Being a REVISION of the Douay Rheims version
Features:
1 Worthy English translation of 1941 with imprimatur
2 Not a new version, but a revision of the work done by Bishop Challoner, who made a revision on the Douay Rheims in 1749
3 Only such alterations in the Challoner text have been made in the revised edition as were necessary to give a simple and clear version in present-day English : many terms found in the Challoner’s version are no longer current in the sense in which he used them
4 Like both the Douay Rheims and the Challoner versions, the revised text rests upon the Latin Vulgate (Clementine edition); it reconsiders in a thorough way the accurate rendering of the divine message in the language of our day
5 In no case has the Latin text been set aside in favour for the Greek
6 The translation has been made to have the version available for liturgical use
7 The translation was requested and supervised by the Episcopal committee of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; principles of translation received complete approval of the Biblical Commission at Rome
8 It is the accomplishment of some 27 Catholic biblical scholars, all men of training and experience in their particular field, who have devoted more than 5 years to the work
9 It has been prepared with all diligence and care, hoping that it may not interpret the divine message in any way except in the full sense intended by the Holy Ghost
10 In Facsimile
This facsimile has been made available for:
-People who would like to buy a good Bible, but aren’t in the possibility to do so (e.g. they possess no credit card etc. to order, or they can’t order because of antichristian environment, or they live in a third world country where an order probably won’t arrive etc., etc.).
-People who are looking for a good bible, but would like to be convinced at first, whether the Confraternity Bible is a good one.
Every Catholic should have a G O O D CATHOLIC Bible (or at least New Testament), and should read (study) his/her Bible regularly, especially the Gospels. If possible it should be a paper edition, so that one can easily take it to read.
Caution: the Confraternity Bible is not to be confused with the New American Bible (published in 1970), although also edited by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. The New American Bible is a translation under the liturgical principles and reforms of the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965).
